Summer may be on the back foot but it’s not giving up without a struggle. August and September has seen some wonderful weather here. SpeySide Whisky Tours have recently been as diverse as there are Single Malt Whiskies in Speyside and it’s been a pleasure showing folk what wonderful scenery as well as interesting ‘wee drams’ we have to offer.
We took in distilleries as far afield as Glen Garioch (pronounced Geery) and some of our culture clients had an amazing time at Cawdor Castle. All of which has meant a rather busy couple of months.
Glen Garioch at Oldmeldrum isn’t usually on our radar, but it’s well worth taking the time to visit. Originally founded in 1797 (it says so on every bottle) it was a pleasure to have an ‘exclusive’ tour of what I can only describe as ‘a bonny wee distillery’ and many thanks to their visitor centre team for a great tour. Another location not usually included on SpeySide Whisky Tours is Cawdor Castle, steeped in history and with the famous link to Shakespear’s Macbeth it makes for an interesting few hours discovering some amazing facts about the Castle and the beautiful gardens. Fortunately there was no ‘ Double, double toil and trouble. Fire burn and cauldron bubble’ on the day.
Cragganmore Distillery again came up trumps with their Range Tour for some of our guests that already have a keen interest in Single Malt Whiskies and the tour added to their knowledge by pairing some of their core range with different foods, and several tasting visits have introduced our clients to other distilleries within the Diagio family of distilleries, Dailuanie, Auchroisk, Clynelish to name a few.
Always high on the list of distilleries is Glenfiddich, and over the last couple of months this hasn’t changed. Not only a great whisky but a very enjoyable spot for lunch in their restaurant which is a great place to relax before or after a tour of this world famous distillery.
Simplyspeyside Tours has a lot more to share (Aberlour, The Glenlivet, Glenfarclas and so, so many more) however we appreciate your time taken to read this blog. Please watch out for further blogs about our adventures.
